Word Spreads
The movement of our hands help build the unseen.
We add to the universe by our efforts.
Whatever we do, we should never think is is irrelevant;
whatever we do, we should not conclude it is so important
either.
Between those two poles find your balance;
between those two regions your talents will bloom.
Word spreads about goodness in many forms.
This is powerful, your hands help build the unseen - the invisible fibers that connect the world. Your efforts are at once inconsequential and significant enough to change the world. Most of the time we will live in the zone between these two extremes, with our talents and cares allowing us to live our lives "in widening circles that reach out across the world" (Rilke, Love Poems to God).
The Olympics brings this spirit to it. The human spirit is universally attracted to the power and greatness of winning, achieving, and working hard. This year, President Obama said: “How good you are regardless of where you come from, what you look like, who you love and that I think is consistent with the spirit of the Olympics."
“Listen to the mustn'ts, child. Listen to the don'ts. Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles, the won'ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me... Anything can happen, child. Anything can be.” ― Shel Silverstein
